Biographical Sketch: This September will mark Howard Leslie’s 40th year in Financial Aid. He has been in a management role since 1983. He is currently Vice President of Financial Aid at Berkeley College in New York and New Jersey and is serving his 7th year as 2nd Vice President of NYSFAAA.
Howard made his mark as an innovator very early in his career being one of the first implementers of federal electronic data and, working with New York State Higher Education Services Corporation and the Department of Education, having made the first electronic student loan in the nation. He was also part of the initial conversations that resulted in GAPS/G5 as well as NSLDS. What he is most proud of is that he was among the very first (maybe the first) who made an issue out of student financial literacy and that students were borrowing far too much. It remains one of his passions.
Howard is happily married for 40 years and his son and daughter-in-law has blessed him with three wonderful grandchildren.
