Biographical Sketch: Tracy P. Williams is a Reentry Specialist and adjunct instructor at the Lee College Huntsville Center. He previously served as the Director of Policy and Outreach for the Texas Inmate Families Association (TIFA), a nonprofit, where he helped facilitate their reentry initiative, work with justice-impacted families, underserved communities, and congressional offices to help facilitate change in the criminal justice system. Before working for TIFA, Tracy was incarcerated for over 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). He began his educational journey while in prison, earning two Associate’s degrees and a Bachelor of Science from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) in 2015. The SWBTS program is sponsored by Grove Norwood and the Heart of Texas Foundation and has been championed by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and Texas state Senator John Whitmire. Upon release from TDCJ in 2020, Tracy was immediately accepted into graduate school at the University of Texas at Arlington where he is completing a Master of Public Administration and then will begin pursuing a doctorate. He also recently completed the state certification as a Re-Entry Peer Specialist. Tracy is an author, playwright, and featured speaker, panelist, and presenter on higher education and criminal justice issues. His formal education, combined with his lived experience in the criminal justice system, enables him to help his peers, educate the public and speak on criminal justice issues.
