Biography: Andrew Nichols Director for Higher Education Research and Data Analytics As the Director for Higher Education Research and Data Analytics, Andrew helps develop a research agenda that identifies patterns and trends in college access, affordability, and success, with a keen focus on improving outcomes for underserved populations. Prior to joining the Education Trust, Andrew served as the Director for Research and Policy Analysis at the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC). While at MHEC, he led the research division in the development and production of analytical and information reports examining key higher education issues. Prior to that, Andrew worked at the Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Higher Education, where his research focused on enhancing educational opportunity for low-income and first-generation college students. Andrew has also co-authored several book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles that have been published in the Review of Higher Education, Journal of College Student Development, and Teachers College Record. He holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from The Pennsylvania State University, a master’s degree from the University of Southern California and a bachelor’s from Vanderbilt University.
