The Department of Education issued its new Borrower Defense to Repayment (BDTR) rules in November 2016 for July 1, 2017 implementation, but the status of the rule remains unclear under the new administration. The Department recently issued procedural rules for the BDTR rule that became effective immediately, creating additional confusion. How well do you understand the new Borrower Defense to Repayment rule and the procedural regulations that were issued in January 2017? What role does the financial aid department play in preparing for, and implementing, procedures and protections relating to this rule? This session will discuss the evolution of the BDTR rule, and what you can be doing to prepare.
Speakers:
Katherine Lee Carey (Cooley LLP)
Marilyn Faller (West Coast University, Orange County)
