In the fall of 2016, NASFAA convened a task force to consider graduate and professional loan limits in the context of the overdue and much-anticipated reauthorization of the Higher Education Act. Since the last reauthorization, graduate and professional students have seen an end to Subsidized Direct Loans, higher Direct Loan interest rates, and the loss of Federal Perkins Loans. With affordable borrowing options eroding and with so much focus from policymakers, the media, and the public skewed toward the financing of undergraduate education, the task force developed policy recommendations to ensure that graduate and professional students' needs receive adequate consideration.
