Often missing from public debates around loan forgiveness is that broad forgiveness of student debt, absent additional systemic reforms, will be a one-time fix, leaving current and future borrowers to navigate the same flawed system. Through generous funding from Arnold Ventures, NASFAA convened a coalition of other higher education associations, organizations and think tanks to examine the challenges and develop thoughtful, targeted policy solutions that ensure the student loan repayment system protects borrowers and advances equity. This session will review the findings and resulting recommendations to overhaul loan repayment at a systemic level, including proposals to reform student loan default.

Karen McCarthy (NASFAA)
