Many colleges require financial aid applicants to submit business tax returns and other documents not required by the Department of Education before they will include their own funds in a financial aid package. We will look at the information that can be gleaned from these forms. We will highlight the difference between taxable income and cash flow, the book and market values, and the possibility that families may have resources not reported on the FAFSA. This session is designed for staff at schools that are considering expanding their need analysis review to include business and rental property returns, and financial aid administrators interested in expanding their skillset beyond the federal methodology.
